It is with great sadness, we inform that Dr Palaniappan Muthiah the Founder and President of Australian Tamil Cultural Society, passed away on 16th June 2022. He was a community volunteer for over 40 years, fondly remembered as Uncle Muthiah by his well-wishers and Society members. He is very much popular among the multicultural fraternity for his humility, authenticity, kindness and simplicity. Uncle Muthiah will be greatly missed by all of us.

Australian Tamil Cultural Society (ATCS) has been running in the ACT since 1992 and was later incorporated in 2004. The primary purpose of this society is to provide a platform for people of Indian origin with Tamil backgrounds to explore and celebrate Tamil culture through formal and informal social events.

ATCS started Chennai Tamil School in 2009 (CTS) to teach the Tamil language, values, and beliefs to our future generation.  ATCS and CTS have evolved significantly over these decades and are succeeding in ways we never could have imagined. We are proud of who we are and this is only possible because of the tireless efforts of our current and past committee and society members.

ATCS conducts cultural events and get-togethers to celebrate various Indian and Tamil festivals & occasions. These cultural events provide a platform for society members to showcase their talents and share their cultural values and traditions. ATCS in collaboration with CTS conducts regular sporting events, reading, writing, and art competitions to encourage and identify talents within the society.

ATCS always welcomes new members with open arms and for membership registration please send an email to atcs.act@gmail.com.
