In July 2023, a significant milestone was achieved with the launch of the ATCS (Australian Tamil Cultural Society) Youth Wing, a dynamic initiative aimed at empowering and engaging young Tamil students in a range of cultural and educational activities. With over 50 enthusiastic and talented young individuals joining the program, the ATCS Youth Wing has quickly become a vibrant community, fostering a sense of identity and pride among its members.
The ATCS Youth Wing owes its existence to the visionary initiative of Ms Sharmila Pajaniandy. Recognizing the need for a dedicated space that caters to the unique aspirations and cultural interests of young Tamil students, Sharmila took the lead in establishing the youth wing, laying the foundation for a vibrant and dynamic community.
The youth wing has set out to create a platform that not only celebrates Tamil culture but also provides opportunities for personal and academic growth. Through a diverse range of events, workshops, and community outreach initiatives, the young participants are given a chance to showcase their talents, learn from each other, and contribute to the wider community.
One of the key objectives of the ATCS Youth Wing is to bridge the generation gap by fostering a sense of unity and understanding between the older and younger members of the Tamil community. The program aims to instill a strong sense of cultural identity and heritage in the youth while also promoting inclusivity and open dialogue.
Abhirami, currently pursuing her studies at ANU, and Sanjeevan, a dedicated student from UC, bring a wealth of energy, ideas, and commitment to their roles as Youth Representatives. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences promise to enrich the ATCS Youth Wing, fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration among Tamil students across different educational institutions.
Lokesh Barani Kumar, taking charge of the tech portfolio, is set to play a crucial role in incorporating technological advancements into the youth wing’s activities. This includes leveraging digital platforms for communication, organizing virtual events, and exploring innovative ways to showcase and preserve Tamil culture through technology.
